The evening event was organized by Microsoft at the Peace Palace in The Hague, in cooperation with the City of The Hague and the Institute for Accountability in the Digital Age, and preceeded by opening words from Ben Bot, President of the Carnegie Foundation, and Robert van Asten, Deputy Mayor of the City of The Hague. Brad Smith’s keynote speech focused on Digital Peace in an Age of Cyber Threats, in support of Microsoft’s campaign Digital Peace Now and the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace, launched during the Paris Peace Forum on 12 November 2018.
After the keynote, Dennis Broeders provided a commentary of the Paris Call, and what it means for cyber norms and which questions are raised when companies are now also political actors. In the joint Q&A and discussion afterwards, Dennis Broeders and Brad Smith answered questions from the audience.
